[1]Be patient for your Lord's decree and do not be like the companion of the fish — Be patient like the Prophet — not hasty (Quran 68:48) [bg:The second surah revealed (after al-Alaq). Revealed in Mecca when the Quraysh accused the Prophet of being a madman (majnun). The surah opens swearing by the pen (al-Qalam) and what is written — a divine affirmation of writing and knowledge. The Prophet is praised for his noble character and warned not to compromise with the polytheists. Revealed in the Meccan period commanding the Prophet to be patient with the judgment of Allah, and not to be like the companion of the fish (Prophet Yunus/Jonah) who became impatient and was swallowed by the whale. This was revealed when the Prophet was impatient for the punishment of the Quraysh, and Allah reminds him to wait patiently for divine justice.]
[1]Be patient in adversity and worship consistently (Quran 74:7) [bg:The fourth surah revealed, after the pause in revelation (fatrat al-wahy). When the Prophet was terrified after the first revelation and wrapped himself in his cloak, the angel Jibril commanded: 'O you wrapped in a garment, arise and warn.' The surah commands purification, patience, and warns of the punishment of Hell for those who deny the truth. Revealed in Mecca commanding the Prophet: 'And be patient for the sake of your Lord (wa li rabbika fasbir).' This was revealed when the Quraysh intensified their persecution after the public declaration of prophethood on Mount Safa.]
[1]Say to the sick: "La ba'sa, tahurun in sha'Allah" (No harm, purification if Allah wills).
[3]Whoever is patient and forgives — that is of the matters of determination — Forgive even when you have right to retaliate (Quran 42:43; Bukhari 6036) [bg:Revealed in Mecca (some ayahs Medinan) establishing that Allah has revealed the same faith to all prophets: 'He has ordained for you the same religion which He enjoined upon Nuh, Ibrahim, Musa, and Jesus.' The surah emphasizes mutual consultation (shura) as a characteristic of the Believers and promises forgiveness for those who forgive others. Revealed in the late Meccan period declaring that whoever is patient and forgives — that is of the matters requiring determination and resolve.]
[M]Be patient and await Allah's decree (Quran 76:24 ()) [bg:Revealed in Medina (some say Meccan) describing the creation of humans from a drop and showing them the path of gratitude or denial. Named al-Insan (Man) or al-Dahr (Time). The surah describes the rewards of Paradise for the righteous who fulfill vows, feed the poor, orphan, and captive, and fear the Day of Judgment. Revealed in Mecca commanding the Prophet: 'So be patient for the decree of your Lord (fasbir li hukmi rabbika) and do not obey from among them a sinner or an ungrateful one.' This was revealed when the Quraysh offered the Prophet wealth, women, and leadership if he would stop preaching Islam.]
[M]Be patient in trials — Allah is with the patient (Quran 29:2-3; Bukhari 3127) [bg:Revealed in Mecca (some ayahs revealed during early migration) concerning the trial of faith. The surah opens: 'Do the people think they will be left to say 'We believe' and not be tested?' — revealed when the Muslims in Mecca were persecuted for their faith. The story of Nuh, Ibrahim, Lut, and Shu'ayb illustrate patience through trials. Revealed in Mecca when the new Muslims in Mecca were facing severe persecution from the Quraysh, and some asked: 'Will we be tested like previous nations?' The ayah declares: 'Do the people think they will be left to say 'We believe' and not be tested? And We certainly tested those before them, that Allah may know those who are truthful and know those who are liars.' This establishes that trials (fitan) are a universal test of faith — patience in trials is the path to divine support.]
